Rest Day

Today we are doing absolutely nothing. We need a pause from the travelling and this is the perfect place. It's quiet and filled with birdsong. There is a terrace beside the moat where we can have a glass of wine and then go and eat our dinner at leisure.

We have explored all the nooks and crannies of the castle, walked through the vineyard and gardens and had a coffee on our tower.

I'm also taking a rest from writing the blog so I will just leave you with some pics.

There's someone in our room!

I planned  surprise for Gill during our stay at the castle - Dinner on the tower served  by our own butler. Unfortunately, the weather deteriorated during the day so I had to arrange with the concierge to have it in our room instead.  Gill knew nothing about all this so I had to find an excuse to keep her out of the room in the hour or so before dinner so that they could set the room up.

When we went to the room they had not quite finished setting it up so they had to close the door on me for a few minutes while they sorted themselves out. Gill could not see inside the room and only saw a shadowy figure shutting the door in my face.  She became quite alarmed. "There's somebody in our room"  She looked genuinely distressed and then said 'But all our stuff is in there ...we have to get in." I tried to calm her down saying I was sure it was a misunderstanding but Gill's panic level rose when they turned the speaker on at too high a volume and music came through the door. Obviously strangers had taken possession of our room and were having a party. Gill was by now in full panic mode and was trying to open the door with me attempting to calm her down. Eventually I had to admit that I had planned a surprise for her and just to wait a few more minutes.

We finally got in and it was beautiful. They had strewn rose petals on the bed and set up fairy lights all around  and had a little speaker in the corner with romantic music playing softly.  Gill was suitably impressed!
